Andre Agassi has advised Emma Raducanu to focus on being the best version of herself on a daily basis and to find comfort in her own identity. The eight-time Grand Slam champion offered his perspective after learning the Briton had been inspired by his 2009 autobiography during her own career challenges.

Raducanu, 23, told Uniqlo she was particularly intrigued by passages detailing Agassi's escape from a career slump in the late 1990s. The American had dropped to 141st in the world before creating his own training regimen to return to the top. "A lot of it was so relatable," Raducanu said.

Agassi expressed his satisfaction that his experiences could still resonate. "It's wonderful to hear that anybody can relate," Agassi told reporters stated his hope was that the book would give players tools to understand they are not alone and can reach a healthier place without directing frustration at tennis itself.

Raducanu's current challenges

Five years have passed since Raducanu's remarkable US Open triumph as an 18-year-old qualifier. She reached a career-high ranking of 10 in July 2022 but has since slipped to 98th in the world. Her progress continues to be hampered by physical issues.

She most recently missed the US Open as she recovers from a stress fracture in her lower right leg. A foot injury disrupted her pre-season training, and she later spent two-and-a-half months off court with a post-viral illness earlier this year. However, Raducanu enjoyed a positive week at Queen's Club in June, reaching her biggest final since her New York triumph.

Agassi's core advice

Agassi's advice centered on self-acceptance and managing external noise. I would encourage her to focus on being the best of herself on a daily basis, but don't judge that by results or thinking that somehow you have to be 100%, he said. He emphasized learning to be 100% of whatever percent you're at and being comfortable in one's own identity, not what people say.

He acknowledged the modern media landscape presents a unique challenge. Back in my day, I could just put down the paper and not read it.

Agassi's personal journey

For Agassi, tennis was not a childhood passion. He said his father's pressure, introducing him as a future number one, led him to play with "fear." It was not until he sank from world number one to 141st that he felt able to reconnect with the sport on his own terms.

I had more success from that point forward than I did playing out of fear, Agassi stated. He also offered advice to parents, saying, The first thing I would advise a parent to think about is that it's not their life, it's their child. He believes raising a child in their own way ensures they never depart from it.hamster wheel of sorts and praised players for making room in their schedules for the team event, predicting spectators will see some spectacular tennis.
