Medvedev Wins Hangzhou Open For 24th ATP Title

Daniil Medvedev defeated Andrey Rublev to win the Hangzhou Open final on Tuesday. The top-seeded Russian secured a 7-5, 6-4 victory in 93 minutes without losing his serve.

Medvedev held all 11 of his service games in a dominant display. He passed up break point chances in Rublev's first two service games, and the match stayed on serve until the eleventh game. Medvedev then broke to claim the first set. He converted two key break points that decided each set.

The champion saved both break points he faced, which came in the sixth game. His serving statistics were formidable.

Medvedev's path to the final included wins over Chak Lam Coleman Wong, Valentin Royer, and Roman Safiullin. Rublev beat Kyrian Jacquet, Rinky Hijikata, and Hugo Gaston in a tough three-set semifinal. This was Medvedev's first win over a Top 25 player since beating Carlos Alcaraz at Indian Wells. He now leads his head-to-head with Rublev 8-2, having also beaten him in their only previous final in Dubai in 2023.

Milestone 24th title places Medvedev among elite

The win marks Medvedev's 24th ATP Tour title and his 22nd on hard courts. That tally ties him with John McEnroe, Stefan Edberg, and Michael Chang for joint-11th in the Open Era. He surpassed Andy Roddick, who has 21 hard-court titles. Jannik Sinner is tenth with 23, while Rod Laver and Rafael Nadal each have 25.

Twenty-three of Medvedev's 24 titles have been won in different cities. At 30 years and seven months, he is the oldest ATP Tour champion of the season. This was his third title of 2026, following victories in Brisbane and Dubai. Each of those wins also came on hard courts.

The title strengthens his position in the battle to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin. Medvedev failed to qualify last year for the first time since 2018. He is currently ranked world number six.

Ceremony highlights bond between rivals

During the awards ceremony, Medvedev told Rublev he was happy to see him in the final and even apologized for his effective serve. Rublev, who was chasing his 19th title and second of the year after Bastad, offered warm congratulations. I just wanna congratulate you and say a big hi to all your family, Rublev said. I hope we will have many, many, many more memories over the years in the future.

Medvedev expressed hope that they could finish the season strongly. He also joked about the level of their finals meetings. We probably play a bit worse than before in terms of results, Medvedev said. We did a final of 500, 250, now time for one Masters 1000.

Medvedev is seeded third for the China Open, where his opening match is against Pablo Carreno Busta.
