Sky Sports is close to signing a new three-year extension to keep the US Open live on its channel until 2030. The deal, expected to be announced when the singles draw from Flushing Meadows begins next week, will see Sky broadcast more than 12 hours of live tennis each day across the extended three-week tournament.

Contract Details

Sky has held exclusive live UK rights to the US Open since 2023, when it secured a five-year deal that replaced Amazon Prime. The new extension will keep the tournament on Sky until 2030, giving the broadcaster a seven-year run for the event.

Sky also signed a five-year deal in 2024 for exclusive UK rights to both the ATP and WTA tours, which is due to run until 2028. The Guardian reports that Sky wants to extend that partnership, with talks over a new deal taking place.

Mixed-Doubles Inclusion

The new contract will include the mixed-doubles event, which is taking place this week. Sky will broadcast more than 12 hours of live tennis each day across the extended three-week tournament, ensuring the mixed-doubles matches receive prime coverage. The inclusion of the mixed-doubles event is a first for the broadcaster.

Historical Rights and Influences

The interest created by Emma Raducanu’s stunning US Open victory two years previously played a big role in persuading Sky to bid for the rights. Raducanu, who walked away from tennis in 2017, had become a national icon after her win, and her success helped the broadcaster secure the deal.

However, Raducanu has not featured much on Sky’s coverage as the world No 68 has struggled with injuries and poor form. She will miss the US Open this year because of a stress fracture in her shin sustained in the buildup to Wimbledon, as noted in the injuries section.

Viewership Impact

Sky values tennis for its popularity with women and its disproportionately high female audience. Sky’s tennis viewership in 2025 was around 60% female, almost double the 31% figure for its overall coverage, according to the stats page.

The strong female viewership makes tennis a valuable platform for attracting new advertisers and different brands.

Market Competition While

Wimbledon will remain on the BBC for the foreseeable future after the corporation extended its contract until 2033 this summer, there is competition in the market for the rest of the tennis calendar. TNT Sports holds the rights for both the Australian Open and French Open. Sky’s extended US Open rights position it as a key player in the UK tennis broadcast landscape.
