Jack Draper's Emotional Journey Back to Tennis
Tennis player Jack Draper opens up about his struggles with a bone bruise injury to his left arm, which has forced him to make drastic changes to his game and led to emotional outbursts on the court.

Draper's recent outburst of tears during a match at the Canadian Open was a devastating sight for many. The 24-year-old had been struggling with a bone bruise injury to his left arm for over a year, and it seemed like he might never recover.
However, Draper has shown remarkable resilience and optimism in the face of adversity. He has been working tirelessly to find a way to compete consistently at the highest level again, and his efforts have not gone unnoticed.
In an interview ahead of his match against Martín Landaluce at the Cincinnati Open, Draper spoke about his emotional breakdown during the Canadian Open match. He explained that he had been feeling overwhelmed by the pressure to perform and the uncertainty of his injury.
"I don't get emotional often," Draper said. "But last week came from a place of, I think I had so much to focus on and manage, so much change going on in my tennis. I got to No 4 in the world through doing the same things, the consistent work, the differences, and then went through this whole process of a lot of setbacks and a lot of struggle."
Draper has made significant changes to his game in an attempt to reduce the strain on his arm. He has returned to a hybrid gut string setup and is playing with a completely different, more flexible racket.
"After this long period, my shift has gone away from performance," Draper said. "I'm changing my string. I desperately don't want to. I desperately know it's hopefully not something that I'm going to have to do moving forwards, but it's something I have to do for the nature of my injury. Same with the racket."
Draper's injury struggles have taken a significant toll on his ranking, which has dropped from No 4 to No 143. He is no longer eligible for protected ranking and is reliant solely on wildcards to compete on the ATP tour.
"At the very start of my injury, if I was to say to myself: 'Right, I'm four in the world now, what's the worst outcome?' It would probably be where I've got to," Draper said, smiling. "But there's a certain peace in that and acceptance because I have to start again. And what a challenge."
Draper's determination to overcome his injury and return to the top of the tennis world is inspiring. His emotional journey has been a difficult one, but he remains optimistic and focused on his goal.
