Medvedev, Pegula advance on US Open day four

Daniil Medvedev and Jessica Pegula booked their places in the US Open third round with commanding straight-sets wins on September 2, 2026. Medvedev navigates tricky finish

Medvedev appeared in complete control, taking the first two sets comfortably. The third set proved more complicated. Gorzny held from deuce with an underarm serve and won a spectacular rally to put pressure on the former champion's serve at 0-30. Medvedev recovered to hold and later broke for a 6-5 lead. He then faced a break point but saved it and won the next two points to seal the match. He will face either Arthur Rinderknech or Jaume Munar in the next round.

Pegula dominates in under an hour

Jessica Pegula's victory was a masterclass in consistency. She lost only seven points on her serve throughout the match against Kenin. The win was her second-fastest of the season. A potential world No. 1 ranking is on the line for Pegula in New York; she could claim the top spot if she wins the title and Elena Rybakina fails to reach the semi-finals. Paula Badosa finally completed her rain-delayed first-round match, beating Daria Kasatkina 6-1, 6-4 on her ninth match point. "Going to sleep last night wasn't easy," Badosa admitted. She will face Coco Gauff next.

Taylor Townsend defeated Taylah Preston 6-1, 6-1. Jasmine Paolini, the 19th seed, beat Lucrezia Stefanini 6-4, 6-1. Leylah Fernandez advanced with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Mananchaya Sawangkaew and will play Pegula in round three.
