Second seed Rybakina reached the final with a gritty three-set comeback against American fourth seed Coco Gauff, winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Soon-to-be world number one Sabalenka overpowered home hope and third seed Jessica Pegula 7-5, 6-2 in her semi-final. Sabalenka now aims to become the third woman in the Open era to win the US Open singles title three years in a row.

Sabalenka's dominant semi-final performance

Aryna Sabalenka described feeling "super desperate" to reach the final after her win over Jessica Pegula. She called it her best match of the year, a sentiment Pegula echoed. "I do think she probably would have beaten 99% of people," Pegula said. "Probably the best match she's played this year."

Sabalenka struck 29 winners to Pegula's 12 in a display of power that overwhelmed her opponent in the second set. The victory also set a new Open era record. She has reached every major final on the surface since the 2023 Australian Open.

Rybakina's resilient path to the final

Elena Rybakina had to fight back from a set down and recover from being broken when serving for the match against Coco Gauff. "I took a deep breath and just told myself I needed to fight and show good tennis," Rybakina said. Sabalenka has not lost at the US Open since the 2023 final against Coco Gauff. Rybakina's only loss in three previous major finals was to Sabalenka in Australia in 2023. The stage is set for a decisive clash between the tour's two dominant forces.
