Wimbledon semi-finalist Arthur Fery has earned a place in the Great Britain Davis Cup team that will meet Ecuador in September. The tie will be staged at London’s Copper Box Arena, with the British side comprising world-number-one Cameron Norrie, doubles specialists Henry Patten and Lloyd Glasspool, and the newly-added Fery. A fifth player will be named closer to the event, and former world number four Jack Draper is not part of the squad.

## Fery’s breakthrough and Davis Cup debut

At 24, Fery entered Wimbledon as a wildcard and surged to a career-high ranking of 36 after reaching the semi-finals. Prior to the tournament he was ranked 114th, making his run to the last four the most impressive by a player of that ranking since Goran Ivanisevic’s 2001 performance. Fery said he was proud to represent Great Britain again and acknowledged the added pressure of playing at home in a World Group tie that could secure a place among the final eight nations. He added that he feels ready for the challenge despite the heightened expectations.

## The rest of the British lineup

Cameron Norrie, currently the British No. 1, will lead the singles effort. Patten and Glasspool, who have formed a successful doubles partnership on the ATP Challenger circuit, are expected to feature in the doubles rubber on day two. The team’s composition reflects a blend of established singles talent and a strong doubles pair, aiming to cover all three match formats across the two-day tie.

## Jack Draper’s absence and injury woes

Jack Draper, also 24, was omitted from the squad after a difficult month marked by injury setbacks. He suffered a tearful episode during his first match back from a long-term arm injury, which has seen his ranking tumble from a career-high of fourth to as low as 160th over the past year. His exclusion underscores the challenges he continues to face in regaining form and fitness.

## Tie format and schedule

The Davis Cup encounter is a best-of-five rubbers tie spread over 19 and 20 September. Day one will host two singles matches, while day two will feature a doubles match followed by two more singles contests. The format offers Britain multiple opportunities to secure the necessary victories to advance.

## Looking ahead

For Fery, the upcoming Davis Cup tie marks his first appearance in a senior team competition on home soil since his Wimbledon run. The experience will test his ability to transition from individual Grand Slam success to the team-oriented pressure of Davis Cup play. With the final squad still to be confirmed, British fans will be watching closely as the team prepares to challenge Ecuador for a spot in the elite eight.
